Advantages of using CompactDry ECO to detect Escherichia coli in food and beverages.

CompactDry ECO is a ready-to-use plate enabling easy culture and enumeration of E. coli in solid food stuff (homogenized with buffer solution), water/liquid samples and swab based environmental testing for surfaces and production areas.
E. coli form blue colonies due to the chromogenic enzyme substrate, X-Gluc contained in the dehydrated selective media.

Precaution for interpretation:
E. coli O157 does not produce beta glucuronidase. So, E. coli O157 colonies on CompactDry ECO are not coloured and form white colonies.

CompactDry ECO is a medium to detect E. Coli

The medium contains the chromogenic enzyme substrate X-GLUC.

Blue / Blue purple: E.coli forms blue colonies

General protocol

Step #1
1

Remove the cap

Step #2
2

Dispense 1 mL of sample in the middle of the CompactDry plate

Step #3
3

The sample diffuses passively and evenly across the dehydrated media sheet, rehydrating the dry medium into a gel within seconds

Step #4
4

Replace the lid and label the plate

Step #5
5

Turn over the plate (lid down) and incubate for the appropriate time and temperature

Step #6
6

Following incubation, count the number of coloured microbial colonies

Incubation Time
24 +/- 2 hours

Incubation Temperature
35 +/- 1 °C or 37 +/- 1 °C

Shelf-Life
24 months

Storage Temperature
RT +1°C to +30°C
